For those readers unfamiliar with the name Scott Nicholson, The Farm is an excellent introduction to his superb writing style.  Through his uncommon ability to combine mundane daily life with frighteningly realistic paranormal events, Nicholson paints a picture of the idyllic town of Solom where residents pay their taxes to the government and their respects to the dead.

Katy Logan has just married a dry but seemingly stable man by the name of Gordon Smith.   As a newly wed with a beautiful family and home, Katy should be in her glory but something strange is happening in Solom.  Gordon is turning out to be less than the picture perfect husband she was hoping for and Katy's daughter Jett keeps telling ghost stories about a man dressed in black.  There is no such man, right?  Why is Jett lying to her? And what about Gordon's dead ex-wife?   Who is running the house anyway? --And what was up with those goats?!

After playing the role of Gordon's dead ex-wife in an attempt to win the affection of her cold and demanding husband, Katy begins to lose herself. Jett worries that her mother is losing her mind.  Maybe she is.  Maybe they all are.  Maybe the entire town is going crazy too because people in Solom don't seem right.  People talk in riddles and tell stories of possessed scarecrows and a horrible thing named Circuit Rider.  People say that terrible things happen when the the dead preacher (dressed in black) rides into town.

It seems that the Circuit Rider is back in town and Solom is about to experience an awakening as the past will undoubtedly repeat itself.  Who will the deadly ghost take with him to the grave this time?  Will Katy and Jett ever get out of Solom alive?

The Farm is a must-have novel for the shelf of any die-hard thriller fan. Not only is the story cleverly written and a bit unnerving, but it's also addicting.  Grab another cup of coffee and get comfortable because Nicholson has the gift for horror writing. With a mixture of suspense and horror, The Farm is sure to keep you up late into the night.
