Scandals abound in Washington and presidential hopeful Lyle Simmons, senator from Illinois, is no stranger to the press.  His calm and cool demeanor following the discovery of his murdered wife's body following a fund raising event at which he was the keynote speaker, lead many to wonder what role, if any, he may have played in her demise.  Lucky for him, Lyle has ex-attorney Phil Rotondi at his side, helping him make sense of the investigation and being the long-time family friend and companion he has always been through the years.

As the investigation continues, another murder is committed.  This time the victim is a newly resigned staff member of the Marshalk lobbying firm which has close ties to the Simmons family, Lyle's son Neil being president of the firm.  Are the two murders related?  When suspects emerge, no one realizes to what extent some will go to silence those that would expose their secrets.

In addition to being a first-rate murder mystery filled with the suspense we have come to expect from Truman novels, Murder on K Street also offers the reader a chance to ponder the behind-the-scenes workings of Washington D.C.  Many readers may not be aware of the existence of large lobbyist firms which aim to bring the agenda of their clients before members of congress.  How influential are such firms in having legislation adopted or blocked ?  With her many insights into Washington, D.C., Margaret Truman's works have a unique ability to be both entertaining and thought provoking to her readers.
