I Romanced the Stone:
A true life encounter with one of the most addictive substances known to man: crack cocaine. Marvin D. Wilson tells of his relatively short but dangerously loyal affair with the drug and the toll it took on his life and family. He was a successful middle-aged white man from the baby boom who began hanging out in the ghetto, befriending whores, selling off his most prized possessions, and abandoning his family, all for a little dope.
It’s a reminder that we are all vulnerable and certain circumstances might put any one of us in a similar situation, looking for a high and then becoming a slave to a very expensive and otherwise repulsive habit.
Marvin takes us with him through those troubled times. He tells of how he went from being a respectable business-owning family man, all the way to a desperate, broke, lonely and lying homeless wreck living only for the next high. Marvin reveals to us that in the end, it is his betrayed family who is finally given the opportunity to pick him up and to help guide him toward a new world filled with the grace and redeeming power of Jesus Christ.
We read so easily a story of the broken down man who would
do anything for a night’s worth of crack. How difficult it must have been to
forget pride and write so openly about such an ordeal.
