After the verdict is read by a less than desirable jury, Eugene Wheeler's fate is thrown into the hands of politicians and lawmakers with their own personal agendas. Will Eugene Wheeler hang for what he's done? What will become of his family?

The conflict in Chocolate for the Poor is not whether a crime was committed, but rather the severity of the crime as seen by the laws of the time, and the political repercussions of capital punishment against the common man.

Analytical thinkers and those who enjoy courtroom drama will appreciate this novel for it's examination and debate of early 19th century law, while others will be drawn to it for the dramatic portrayal of a family torn apart by an unimaginable crime.
